Receipt Diary

The project “Receipt Diary” aims to record a quotidian behavior that can be easily ignored - purchasing. Every time when I browse the transaction history in my bank account, these texts and numbers remind me of what I have bought during the day, what I have eaten, where I have been. Those names of websites, shops, restaurants trace my life silently, transferring and breaking my life into pieces of receipts.

By transferring my receipts onto cards through 70% isopropyl alcohol, I am able to record my daily purchasing behavior. Writing down the date/location/amount on the back of the cards, I turn the receipts with the function of “diary” – easy to save memories and allows revisiting. Reviewing these copies of receipts helps me to recall my mood, the people I met, and the surroundings of the shop during the purchasing process. Rather than merely being copies of receipts, they are embodiments of my quotidian life and carriers of my memories.
